I woke up in the wee hours of January 1st, 2021 feeling such a strong shift in the global energy. This year is for finding your soul’s purpose.
Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive and do that…Because what the world really needs is people who have come alive.Howard W. Thurman
I’ve had dozens of conversations lately with people all over the world who say they’re looking for a purpose, a reason to get out of bed in the morning. In Japanese, they call that ikigai, one’s purpose for living.
In my own journey, healing mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually has involved finding a reason for living, for staying on this big, zany, chaotic, joyous planet. As much as I love Mother Earth, sometimes I wonder who dropped me off and left me here without any indication of when they’d be back to take me home!
Yet ofttimes a secret somethingEliza r. Snow
Whispered, “You’re a stranger here,”
And I felt that I had wandered
From a more exalted sphere.
Clearing stale, inherited beliefs about who and what I should be has had a direct influence on my ability to manifest wealth, safety, security, peace, and all kinds of other good things in my life. Law of Attraction gurus always say, “whatever you give out comes back to you,” but that never really proved true for me…until I started living in my truth.
For me, that has been a soul-searching experience, and I had to wait until I was desperate for help (physically, financially, emotionally, mentally…and more) to realize that I had to make a change.
That shift involved countless hours of meditation, Reiki, soul-searching, forgiveness, self-care, and dozens of other interventions. I have used numerology, personality tests, reflection, experimentation, and all kinds of tools to try and understand the real me.
I believe we are born with certain innate qualities that we are designed to use for the highest and best good of ourselves and others. We had the chance to practice these abilities before we were born, but now is the real test of our skills. The more we learn here, the more we take with us when we die.
For many of us, the push to find our ikigai comes after a trauma, an illness, a loss of a job, or some other earth-shattering event. We are forced to shift our paradigm and emerge an entirely new person.
A few of us are lucky enough to have that drive without being forced. I have always had that drive, but the real impetus and direction came from hardship. I’m still on the path.
That’s why I focus so much of my healing sessions on clearing energetic baggage — to make way for a person’s true self to step in. We carry trauma, ancestral baggage, beliefs, energetic chords, and so many other limitations that prevent us from reaching our full potential. Until we release that, we stay pretty unhappy.
If you are experiencing frustration in work, relationships, health, or anything else, perhaps you have still not found your ikigai.
2021 can be your year, if you set the intention and see it through.
Sometimes, healing means changing integral parts of life that seem familiar, rather than comfortable. Most of the time, it came from an outside source, not your higher self. The true Source of all healing wants us all to be happy and fulfilled. After all, you are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139).
When we’re living in our ikigai, we love ourselves, love others, and we always have enough. How will you find yours?
